Founded by Ifeoma C. Onyia, Clyopatra Winery emerged as the first African immigrant-owned winery in the U.S., marking a significant milestone in the Maryland wine landscape. Under her leadership, the winery has fostered a sense of community and cultural significance.

Who Is Ifeoma?

Ifeoma C. Onyia is a trailblazing entrepreneur and community leader, widely recognized as the founder and owner of Clyopatra Winery & Vineyard—the first African immigrant-owned winery and vineyard in the United States. Her visionary leadership has transformed the Maryland wine industry, positioning Clyopatra Winery as a cultural and economic landmark in Prince George’s County.

In addition to her contributions to the wine industry, Ifeoma is the founder and CEO of MISO Medical Center, a CARF-accredited outpatient mental health clinic providing comprehensive behavioral health services to Maryland residents. She also leads the House of Clyopatra Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that champions education, wellness, and social equity. The foundation’s hallmark initiative, Santa’s Closet, ensures that underserved children receive brand-new gifts every Christmas—a tradition upheld since 2019.

A fashion industry advocate and creative visionary, Ifeoma founded Capitol Fashion Week, an annual celebration of style and empowerment that brings together designers, models, and philanthropists to showcase talent while supporting meaningful causes.

Born in Enugu, Nigeria, and raised in London, Ifeoma blends global experience with local impact. Her commitment to public service is reflected in her role on the Prince George’s County Advisory Board and as Chairperson and Treasurer for Congressman Glenn Ivey. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping community initiatives and advancing equitable development in the region.

In recognition of her enduring service and achievements, Ifeoma C. Onyia was awarded the prestigious United States President’s Lifetime Achievement Award by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. With a dynamic portfolio that spans entrepreneurship, healthcare, philanthropy, and public service, Ifeoma remains an inspiring force for innovation, empowerment, and legacy building.
